The Turret

The turret is unquestionably my favorite project ever. It is essentially a giant sprocket with a steel ring on the bottom that is engaged to 3 V-bearings. I chose #25 chain as opposed to other alternatives like timing belt or gears because of our machining capability. Additionally ordering a custom belt would have taken at least 2 weeks. The whole turret is powered by a Falcon 500 BLDC motor. There are two limit switches (not pictured) that allow us to zero the turret, with the motor also having its own integrated rotary encoder to track the rotation.
